Designer Ulf Moritz has been highly regarded in the decorating world for many years. He lives and works in Amsterdam but is active on an international level. Following his studies at the German Krefelds Textilingenieurschule, Moritz worked for several years as a textile designer for weaving company De Ploeg. In 1970 he made the decision to set up his own design studio in Amsterdam.
From 1971 until 2004, he also worked at the Design Academy in Eindhoven as head of the department ‘Man and Identity’. In 2003, Moritz was voted Designer of the Year by German magazine ‘Architektur und Wohnen’, and in 2004 he received the honorary title of “Honorary Royal Designer for Industry” from the Royal Society of Arts in London for his textile work.
Ulf Moritz is mainly active in textiles and interior design, though he also regularly creates showrooms and exhibitions as an art director. In his long and full career he has designed numerous collections of textiles, carpets, wallpaper and furniture. His clients include large brands and companies such as Marburg, Sahco, Danskina, Intair, Montis, Felice Rossi and Viva. All of these clients have been and continue to be at the receiving end of his creative prowess and exceptional vision.
The variety of his designs is captivating. They cover a broad stylistic spectrum – from sober, minimalist creations to frivolous, opulent fabrics with bold, eye-catching patterns. His fabrics set themselves apart through the application of advanced techniques and often refined combinations of materials. His distinctive style can be easily recognised in each and every design. Only truly great designers can handle such an array of ideas – and he is certainly one of them.
